Why You Need To Consider A Wedding In Your Garden

There are so many great reasons to consider a wedding in your garden, because let’s face it, with a celebrant led wedding you have total control over location AND content, so let’s think outside the box for a while and take a look at garden weddings.

COST. Wedding venues like hotels and barns are notoriously expensive affairs, I mean, we are talking five figures here. In today’s cost of living crisis, you really don’t have to break the bank to have a stunning and meaningful wedding ceremony. Think about what it means to you – surely it’s all about showing your love and commitment to each other in front of your nearest and dearest family and friends. It’s not about WHERE you do it, it’s about the occasion.

INTIMACY. Unless you have access to a huge garden, then your garden wedding will more than likely be a small, intimate gathering. Isn’t the notion of this just beautiful? A garden wedding gives you the perfect excuse to keep the guest list short.

SETTING. A garden wedding means you’re already surrounded by beautiful flora and fauna. Add to that the odd butterfly passing by. You won’t need to bring flowers in to decorate the seating or surround you both. Instead, the natural beauty serves as the ambiance for the wedding. Simply light the BBQ, hang some fairy lights, light some lanterns and celebrate your love for each other in the most relaxed setting.

MORE LOW KEY. A garden setting allows for a more natural aesthetic for your ceremony, and gives your wedding a much more relaxed feel than a traditional wedding venue. To fit with this, think flowy hair, a simple wedding dress, natural makeup and no ties or tuxedos. Think chilled, relaxed and beautiful.

NO COMPROMISE ON DATE. You can choose any date you want, no working around venues.

CHILD FRIENDLY. There’s much more to entertain fidgety kids in a garden setting. Let them run around if they want to.

PHOTOS FILLED WITH COLOUR. Let nature choose your colour scheme and embrace it. And the natural lighting makes for amazing shots.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO TRAVEL FAR. With your bed only a stone’s throw away, you can relax in true comfort without having to worry about checking out the next day. And of course, home is where the heart is.

A UNIQUE FEEL TO THE CEREMONY. Without any effort, garden weddings give off that intimate and whimsical vibe to the whole celebration. Your guests will be impressed, of that there is no doubt.

A READY MADE RECEPTION VENUE. Get in some caterers, or go for a DIY wedding breakfast. Your guests should not expect anything grand, they are there to witness YOUR happiest day, and their presence is all you need. As long as there is food and drink, then everyone should be merry.

THINGS TO CONSIDER. Whilst all of the above are fantastic reasons to have a wedding in your garden, let’s not forget that the Great British weather is not always our best friend. You’re going to need a plan B. If you are lucky enough to have a house with patio doors leading onto the garden, you may want to consider if the ceremony could be held there should the weather not be onside.

Conversely, if a heat wave is on the cards, think about white umbrellas and parasols to provide some much needed shade. And have iced water available to keep your guests (and yourselves) hydrated. Marquees and pergolas also can provide some nice shelter and shade. Some patio heaters could be rented for after dark, and / or blankets made available.

In any event, have a bad weather alternative that keeps the overall day on track. Should you be given bad weather on the day, then it’s how you handle it that makes all the difference.   Above all it’s your wedding day, have fun and trust your photographer and if they ask you to brave the rain, cold or snow – do it!  You only get the one chance to create memories to last a lifetime – if you embrace the British weather so will your guests.

I hope this blog has been helpful and given you some reasons to consider a garden wedding. Garden weddings are another great reason to hire a celebrant – a registrar will not come to your garden, so you’ll need to do the signing of the register on another day, leaving you free to plan the most amazing, unique, and beautiful wedding ceremony.
